1) Message boards : News : Third target (corona_PLpro_v2) (Message 505) Posted 1 Feb 2021 by IanFoulkes Post: Check points are under 'options > computing preferences > Request task check point' i have mine set to every 180 seconds, if i have a power outage or a PC crash i could lose 1h05m computing on one work unit without checkpoints, but spread over the 32 cores ( 32 running work units at almost completion 99%) its a day and a half of lost work :( so having mine set to 180seconds i would lose about 1h30min computing time worsted case scenario, obviously with some computers which have a high clock frequency and less cores .. lets say work units take 32min and have 8 cores you would only lose 4 hours of work (with no check points), but again this is lost computing time... so a ball park ' Request task check point' set at every 300 seconds would be OK (40minits of computing time lost), im sure some one will have a formula or something :)

3) Message boards : News : Temporary task shortage (Message 465) Posted 26 Jan 2021 by IanFoulkes Post: Thank you Natalia for the information, a lot of other sites don't even say what happening and leave us volunteers hanging around wondering what going on, hope you find the bugs soon :) I'm crunching covid work units on 'world community grid' currently and yes this is one of the sites which don't really give you much information on what our computers are really doing, just be nice to know if a phase or research batch completed with 'X' amount of results, i mean don't get me wrong i look forward to new work units its just when you have been a volunteer for over 10 years and when some one askes you what you actually research i cannot give them a straight answer, I do get a funny look of them wit the reply 'so you don't actually know what your computer is doing apart from a progress bar? you can see my dilemma :) Keep up the good work Natalia im patiently waiting ready for the new work units :) Keep Safe and well Ian
