A good way to limit bunkering is to have all challenges only count tasks that were both downloaded and returned during the challenge period.

Check points are under 'options > computing preferences > Request task check point' i have mine set to every 180 seconds, if i have a power outage or a PC crash i could lose 1h05m computing on one work unit without checkpoints, but spread over the 32 cores ( 32 running work units at almost completion 99%) its a day and a half of lost work :( so having mine set to 180seconds i would lose about 1h30min computing time worsted case scenario,

obviously with some computers which have a high clock frequency and less cores .. lets say work units take 32min and have 8 cores you would only lose 4 hours of work (with no check points), but again this is lost computing time... so a ball park ' Request task check point' set at every 300 seconds would be OK (40minits of computing time lost), im sure some one will have a formula or something :)

That works for BOINC applications that have checkpointing written into the program, CMdock doesn't, so it won't work for CMdock.

I've seen only three targets mentioned so far, and we are already attempting to work on the second of those. I'd like to see plans for what will happen when the third target is completed. Will a fourth target be ready by then? Or will the SiDock@home project just shut down then?

Doing the same work does not mean that they are doing it with the same programs, and therefore asking them is unlikely to help if the problem is with the programs.

Thank you for the feedback! The tasks will be of the same length. Also, CurieMarieDock runs faster, so they will finish faster. We hope this will more or less eliminate the need for checkpoints. We use BOINC Wrapper, and the main problem is, there are either checkpoints or correct suspending of tasks/project by the client. The latter feature is highly demanded.

You may need to explain how to use the latter feature, then. I'd expect rather few users who haven't already used BOINC for years to already know,

Does CurieMarieDock have checkpoints? I saw no sign than RxDock does; it can run for half an hour without writing a checkpoint,

If it doesn't have checkpoints, are the future tasks expected to be significantly longer than the current ones? If so, expect users in areas with less reliable power to drop out of the project when they start getting the longer tasks. And probably also users who don't want to leave their computers running overnight.

If you're not familiar enough with the application source code to add checkpoints, you could try the virtual machine method of adding checkpoints. The RNA World BOINC project hasn't created any new workunits for months, but the last 30 are still running.

http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/

The virtual machine has checkpoints, although the application program doesn't.
