1) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : GLIBC_2.27 Req (Message 422)

Hi!

Thanks for the info on dpkg!!

In order to test running the Universe@home project on an older computer I really did make a try this week with taking the files:
libm-2.27.so libstdc++.so.6.0.25 libmvec-2.27.so and symlinks: libmvec.so.1 libstdc++.so.6
from an Ubuntu-18 machine and put them all in the project directory for the U@H project, i.e.:
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/universeathome.pl_universe/

That went fine (once I also created the symlinks) and that old can crunched Universe all night w/o errors. :-)
By placing the files in the project directory I don't risk compromising the rest of the system.

I haven't tried this with SiDock yet as I've been too busy the rest of the week,
but should there be a shortage of rxDock tasks I'll try this trick here too.

2) Message boards : Science : RxDock versus CurieMarieDock (Message 417)

Hi!

Just for oddballs like me that's running old cans with glibc versions older than 2.27. ;-)
RxDock is then the only alternative for those machines.

I read in another thread that you're about to try recompiling MarieCurie for AVX512.
That sounds very interesting indeed, although a bit too advanced for me! :-)

I took a glance at the GitLab page now, but I didn't know in what files to look for the code that's using SSE/AVX.
Do you happen to know if MC currently is supporting the "normal" AVX and the AVX-2?
While none of my machines are modern enough to have the AVX-512, some of them at least feature AVX,
and I've got two I5:er that I think will support the AVX2.
Could MC be made to support any type of AVX, and make the best out of the CPU features it can find?

Good luck with the coding and the crunching!!!

Hi!

Very interesting hack! :-)
Will such a thing be possible with Ubuntu/Debian too?
Here on the Debian branch we're using .deb packages,
and I must admit that I'm mostly used to install them directly by using apt-get
(and dpkg for some older versions of FPC/Lazarus) so I'm not sure I understand
how to extract the files from within a .deb package.

Hi!

Any news about the transition?
What is the new url we're supposed to use?
Will it be necessary to use the "Remove" button in the Boinc manager, or will a "Reset project" be sufficient to make the change on the hosts?

Nice weekend 2 U all!!!

Kindest regards,
Gunnar

Now I've got WU:s for my old cans too!! :-)
Hope there will be a steady supply of rxDock i the future.
Happy Crunching!!!

Hi Natalia!

Thanks for the new WUs!
Yummy, yummy!, now there's gonna be some real crunching made! :-)

I know this project is just in the test phase yet, but it would be very interesting to know if the work that has been made so far has led to any scientific results already?

Nice Friday and weekend!!!

Hi!

We're completely run out of rxDock tasks for our Linux computers again!!!
Seems the WU-generator doesn't generate rxDock tasks in the volume needed, and doesn't sense that there's a lack of just rxDock tasks.

Hi!

My computers are hungry and need more WU-food! :-)

Seems we ran out of work for the rxDock app about 6 UTC this morning.
Still over 10000 tasks left for the curieDock, but not for Linux computers.

Hi Natalia!

Congrats!!!
Hope the Linux version of the cmDock is coming soon!
Will there still be a supply of WUs for the 'old' rxDock until then?
